Good day...and welcome back to another work week.  I driving into work this morning and started thinking about the growing number of people who no longer have jobs to report to.  And the problems are no longer just concentrated on the manufacturing sector.  I was shocked at the long list of retail stores which are planning to shut down after the holiday season.  The situation in the US economy continues to deteriorate, and unfortunately things are going to get much worse here in the US before they turn around.  On that cheery note, I'll get started.

Well... We might as well get right into this... I'm sure you heard that the Jobs Jamboree was awful on Friday. UGH! Jobs are dropping like the temperatures outside, and there doesn't seem to be anything to stop them from dropping either!

The Berlin Wall (German: Berliner Mauer) was a physical barrier separating West Berlin from the German Democratic Republic (GDR) (East Germany), including East Berlin. The longer inner German border demarcated the border between East and West Germany. Both borders came to symbolize the Iron Curtain between Western and Eastern Europe.

POST-ELECTION BLISS Today we've elected a new President of the United States of America and the tides of change are upon us. After listening to Barack Obama's acceptance speech last night I was touched and inspired by new possibilities. I couldn't remember ever having such a good feeling after an election in my entire lifetime. I was elated at this victory and hopeful.

I witnessed plentiful tears in the eyes of the people in the crowd cheering him on in Chicago last night. I caught a glimpse of Jesse Jackson and Oprah Winfrey in the crowd with a look of astonishment in their eyes. To have finally elected a black man to the White House was an achievement few of us thought possible in our lifetime. Tonight I was proud to stand here as an American and sing with them, “Yes, we can.”

Washington - A powerful new lobbying force is coming to town: Barack Obama's triumphant army of 3.1 million Internet-linked donors and volunteers.

In a mass e-mail thanking them, written moments before his Grant Park victory speech, Obama put them on notice. "We have a lot to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next," he wrote. Photo: Nouvo

Dear Fellow Concerned American:

Out of the pain and frustrating dysfunction of the current win-lose political drama, a serious constituency is growing for a political system based in well tested win-win principles and practices (similiar to those adopted by large businesses over the past couple decades to reconcile the divergent interests of management, labor, and other "stakeholders.")  This constituency isn't waiting for the political professionals to agree -- its unlikely they ever will -- it's being driven by citizen leadership.

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990, Cuba's economy went into a tailspin. With imports of oil cut by more than half – and food by 80 percent – people were desperate. This film tells of the hardships and struggles as well as the community and creativity of the Cuban people during this difficult time. Cubans share how they transitioned from a highly mechanized, industrial agricultural system to one using organic methods of farming and local, urban gardens.

At Global Business Development Services LLC, or GBDS.US, there are business and technology developments we've been working on that would, if applied to your business, be able to not only market and sell your products or services to a much larger global market over the Internet, but manage dynamic content and a positive user experience as well.

Utilizing the web for marketing and e-commerce is the wave of the future and those who adopt these emerging methods and technologies will be ahead of the game despite what the overall economy is doing. GBDS.US has been up to some interesting developments:

1. Stirling Energy Systems was fully funded this year with a $100m investment from an Irish company after ten years of treading water.  One of the project managers of GBDS.US raised $500k of the early angel funding from 1998-2000 which made it possible for them to get this far. SES will begin building two of the world's largest solar-thermal power plants in the world next year in southern California. www.stirlingenergy.com .
